Asbestos Popcorn Ceiling Removal in Vancouver, WA

Vancouver WA Asbestos Removal takes down asbestos popcorn and acoustic ceiling texture in Vancouver, WA homes and rentals. SWCAA classes sprayed texture as surfacing material, so a survey of a ceiling needs three, five or seven samples per homogeneous area depending on its size. When asbestos is confirmed or presumed, we file the Notice of Intent and remove the texture wet inside plastic containment, so the scrapings stay damp and contained.

In Clark County even a small ceiling is notified to SWCAA, though very small contractor jobs carry no fee or wait. Vancouver WA Asbestos Removal takes on popcorn ceilings throughout Vancouver, WA and in neighboring Camas and Washougal.

Whole-house ceiling removal

A house full of textured ceilings usually lands in one of SWCAA’s 10-day notice tiers: $153 from 48 square feet and $384 from 160 square feet in the 2026 schedule. Rooms are emptied or furniture is covered, floors and walls are sheeted, and the ceiling is misted and scraped in sections. The 10-day period runs from the date SWCAA has the complete notice and fee.

Single room or patch areas

A closet ceiling, a patch under a roof leak or a strip cut out for a new light fixture can stay under 48 square feet. For a contractor job that size, the 2026 schedule charges nothing and sets no waiting period, but the notice is still filed and the work is still done wet in a controlled area. It is worth checking whether more of the same texture will be disturbed later, so the job is not split into repeated notices.

Sampling a ceiling before deciding

Texture can look the same from room to room while coming from different jobs: an addition sprayed years after the original house is a separate homogeneous area. An inspector samples each one, at least three times for areas up to 1,000 square feet. A negative result in one area does not clear another, and a positive in one bedroom does not prove the hallway.

Owner-occupant removal

SWCAA lets the resident owner of a single-family home scrape the texture personally once prior notification is filed, and it has a homeowner guide devoted to popcorn ceilings. Until a lab result says otherwise the texture counts as asbestos, and the wetting, bagging and disposal rules apply to you just as they would to a crew. Overhead scraping sends debris onto everything below, so consider whether full contractor containment is the safer choice.

Ceiling projects on Clark County notices

SWCAA posts approved asbestos notices online and offers a case search. A sample of 2025 residential notices reviewed for this page repeatedly listed popcorn or acoustic ceiling texture, sometimes alongside drywall and flooring in townhomes, and some recorded that the homeowner presumed the material was asbestos rather than ordering a survey.

A notice shows what you will be asked to state: the materials and quantities, whether a survey was done, who is doing the work and where the waste is going. Notices also show owners’ names and addresses, so we use them only to understand typical projects, never to identify anyone. Reading a few before you call can help you describe your own ceiling in the same terms.

Before a remodel, a ceiling survey is often paired with the floors underneath through asbestos testing and AHERA surveys. Walls, siding and pipe insulation are covered elsewhere on Vancouver WA Asbestos Removal.
